The job of a parent never ends:

You've got to make sure your children are eating right, sleeping soundly, studying hard and staying active without getting injured.

If you're struggling with ways to get your children to eat better, you're not alone.

Here are a few suggestions to help:

  • Offer fruits and veggies often. Make sure they see you are going for your 2 & 5 too! (that’s 2 pieces of fruit and 5 veggies every day)
  • Let them dip. Yoghurt, peanut butter and low fat dips go well with lots of fruits and vegetables.
  • Try serving meals buffet-style. Let children choose which items to put in their salad or on their baked potato.
  • Make it fun. Get children involved in tearing up the lettuce, rinsing the vegetables and sprinkling the cheese.
  • Grow your own. Start a veggie patch in your back yard and encourage your children to grow their own veggies - they’ll be heaps more excited to eat them when they’ve dug them out of the ground themselves!

What your children are drinking also has an impact on their health — today, tomorrow and when they're all grown up! Understanding which beverages can fit into a balanced lifestyle is important. Learn more about the role of beverages in your child's diet.
